Two years later, Affectum spoke again with Nuran Evren Sit about the second season of the series Another Self, which premiered last July. The creator of the first film to feature family constellations and which allowed millions of people around the world to get to know this extraordinary tool for expanding consciousness and evolution, talks to us today about the creative process, synchronicities and how we are all connected.
- Nuran, it was with immense joy that we experienced the countdown to the premiere of the second season of this series that was born from you, Another Self. Two years ago we spoke to you after watching all eight episodes of the series, dazzled by all the rational barriers you managed to overcome with your art, directly touching the hearts of millions of people. This time we spoke before the premiere, which was expected to be an even bigger success, but it was important for you to wait a few weeks so that you could now tell us about the creative process and the transformation you’ve felt with the field that has opened up. Well, we know that only someone going through deep internal processes can give voice to them with such mastery.
Dear Affectum,
Thank you for this interview after 2 years of the first one. I am sorry that I am late to respond but I wanted to wait to see how the second season lands and interacts with the audience.
Writing the second season was a great joy after the reactions we received for the first season. It was both easier and harder in many ways. Different from the first season, I knew more about the characters and the atmosphere. When I was writing the first season everything was flu in my mind, but the second season, I could see the whole scenes in a physical world. Cause now I knew how the characters sound, move and how would the locations seem. So, I had more focus on the story. There were less unknows for me I can say. And I knew more about the potentials of the actors, and the weak and strong points of the whole story. So, I tried to fill the blanks from the first season, to improve the characters through a deeper level, challenging them with conflicts that wouldn’t feel repetitive. And to be honest second season became my favorite as I watched its final cut.
- Without any kind of spoiler, because the world wants to be surprised again, tell us what happened behind the scenes of this second season that changed the course of history.
I guess the big surprise is about Zaman. I really like his story arc and its effect on Ada. I tried to break the perception of how perfect he was in the first season. I like to see the contrasts of the characters and when they are in dilemmas.
- The systemic vision behind family constellations or, as you call it in the series, “expanding the family of origin”, is based on the principle that we are all part of a system or group to which we are inevitably linked. So to what extent are the cast and everyone else who was part of this second season connected to the story itself? Can you tell us about some of the “coincidences” that happened this time round?
There were a lot synchronicity between the members of the team and the story. As Leyla got pregnant in the first season, Seda became pregnant after the shootings and now she has her second daughter. And, my travel to Mexico after the first season had an impact on me while I was writing the second season.
I was more aware and careful about what we were suggesting to the audience. And we had a new member, our director for 5 episodes Erdem Tepegöz had also brought a lot of insights from his own history. Sevgi’s grandfather was inspired from what Erdem told me on a lunch we had together.
And Murat gave me a lot f clues on how would Toprak feel and act. Dear Aytaç had something common with Diyar and all that coming together, brings another soul to the final work.
- What’s the big difference between the final version of the story you’re going to give us and the story you initially imagined? This is assuming that the story spoke louder…
I do not think there is a huge difference. I am very honored and grateful that the final version is an improved version of what I imagined.
- As a writer who believes that we are like the black box of an aeroplane, “which never loses its data, no matter how many impacts it suffers. Our past is like that. The flavours, the smells, the moments wait for the right time to be remembered”, can we expect more signs that the future is ancestral in this second season?
Yes, sure. Each character is a continuation of hundreds of ancestors, like every single one of us. That concept itself, gives me the motivation that, this story can go on without being repetitive.
- A word for the second season of Another Self
To see the past as the way it is not enough to improve our selves. We need to make our own steps and take the responsibility of our choices.
No se ni como empezar pero me encanto la serie, terminé la segunda temporada quiero ver la 3era temporada Gracias por escribir y por hacer lo que verdaderamente a mucha gente nos gustaría Cónstelar, soy de México.
saludos Sra Nuran Evren
